Ostrich Male Wing Feathers

Male wing feathers are naturally white, however, because of the sandy soil where they are raised, there can be some orangey brown surface discolouration.

Male wing feathers can be bleached to remove the slight discolouration if required. As the male wing feathers are already white and substantial in body, the bleaching process makes the feathers "bleached white" colour. Bleaching male wing feathers pure white is quite an aggressive process and causes some loss of quality of the feather.

Dyeing natural male wing feathers does not cause any loss of quality.

Ostrich Female (or Femina) Wing Feathers

Ostrich Female wing feathers are one of the most exclusive of all ostrich feathers.

Femina feathers are slightly smaller and a little less full than male wings. Feminas have some natural brown markings on the tip and throughout the veins of the feather.

Femina wing feathers can be bleached white to remove the markings if required. As the female wing feathers are mostly white and substantial in body, the bleaching process makes the feathers "bleached white" colour. Bleaching female wing feathers pure white is quite an aggressive process and causes some loss of quality of the feather.

Dyeing natural female wing feathers does not cause any loss of quality.

Defective Ostrich Wing Feathers

Defective ostrich wings can be barred, tipless and sightly damaged. sizes ranges from 10 - 25 inches and longer. Ideal in groups or bunches as a decorative feather.

Available for purchase in bunches or by the pound in selected colours.

All defective feathers are offered for sale "as is" and where we provide dyed colours, these are done over the natural markings - we do not offer defective feathers dyed over an "off white" colour.

We recommend that these defective wing feathers are purchased in bunches or pounds as they are not an ideal decorative feather on an individual basis.

Wings are white in natural colour and the females have natural brown markings - they all take dye quite well.
