: I need more detailed information about feeding 0-1-2-3 month old astriches. Requairments for quality and the best suppliers. The most important requirement is to ensure that the Breeder birds are receiving an adequate diet to ensure that the chicks at hatch are healthy and viable.A good ostrich ration at any stage will contain quality forage - preferably Lucerne/Alfalfa; A grain - preferably Maize/corn; a protein product - preferably - dehulled soyameal and high levels of vitamins and minerals. It will NOT contain any significant proportion of grain by-products,any animimal protein products or roughage products such as straw. The vitamins and minerals used will be from quality sources.A starter ration will be fed till approx. 2.5mths when the chicks are consuming 2lbs/.9kgs of feed and will contain slightly lower levels of fiber than the grower rations. At this stage a change is made to a Grower ration.Fiona Benson

Again I have to refute some of the above statement as having no scientific basis.Baby birds including ratites eat insects as a source of protein. It is an animal protein.Live domesticated earthworms or meal worms will help compromised chicks. The problem with animal protein (and BSE or mad cow disease is NOT a problem in birds)is that it is dereived from meat by-products of the foulest sources imaginable and contains melted plastic insect tags and flea collars from dear animals as well as the plastic packaging from supermarket discarded meat. The patent for rhea or ostrich extract for TREATING fading chick syndomre was approved and has passed scientific review. This business about no animal protein for the birds has no scientific basis. These baby birds are not natural vegetarians, they are omnivores just like we are and they enjoy and thrive on small amounts of insects, high quality meat and eggs from free range birds. : : I need more detailed information about feeding 0-1-2-3 month old astriches. They should be avoided at all costs if we care about the health of the consumer and the birds; also the birds ability to perform and produce quality carcasses with good tasting quality meat that our customers will enjoy.:: : : I need more detailed information about feeding 0-1-2-3 month old astriches.
